Curriculum Year 2

Welcome to Year One/Two

In Year 1/2 this year we have three mixed classes:

1/2G (Rhinos), 1/2A (Zebras) and 1/2H (Giraffes)

In the Rhinos class Miss Glenn is the class teacher.

In the Zebras class Miss Anderson is the class teacher and KS1 lead.

In the Giraffes class Miss Hardwick is the class teacher.

We are lucky enough to have our Learning Support Assistants helping with our learning: Miss Reynolds, Mrs Bent, Mrs Wilkie and Ms Morley. Mrs Harper and Mr Woods will also be teaching in our classes every week.

Throughout the year, children will have lots of opportunities to interact with children and adults across the two year groups.

At Kegworth Primary School we follow the National Curriculum. This is a large document which can be found online and details what should be covered in the curriculum at Primary School. The topic web below details more information about what the children are being taught each year.

For Phonics/ Spelling lessons the pupils will be grouped into appropriate phases. For Maths and Reading lessons, the pupils will be separated into their year groups. All other lessons will be taught in mixed y1/y2 classes with their class teacher.

We will be continuing to develop our character muscles in many different ways, and through a range of critical thinking questions we become amazing scientists, historians, geographers, artists and designers.

Children will have two PE sessions per week, run by the class teacher or Mr Woods. All children in years 1/2 have a PE session every Monday and Thursday. Please make sure pupils have a full and named PE kit in school at all times as PE slots can change. PE kit needs to be weather appropriate as sessions may be outdoors.

Homework is set every half term and all the information you will need will be on Google Classroom. Work and photos are to be uploaded onto the assignments and feedback/ Dojo points will be added. Pupils are expected to read to an adult at least three times a week and have their reading records signed to earn their Dojo point.

Weekly pre-learning is sent to parents/ carers every Friday for the week ahead to pass on information about what your child will be learning.

Please check our Facebook page and pre-learning information for updates, information and photos about what our classes have been learning in school.

If you have any questions or queries please speak to a member of staff at the start or end of school- we are always more than happy to help.

We are looking forward to the year ahead filled with lots of learning and lots of fun!
